UK: Fujitsu has joined Toshiba in terminating its air conditioning distribution agreement with AMP.

The announcement follows the shock acquisition of AMP, one of the UK’s leading air conditioning distributors, by Japanese rival Panasonic ten days ago.

Toshiba, one of the three original air conditioning brands represented by AMP, announced they were withdrawing from the distribution deal last Friday. The remaining manufacturer, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has so far made no comment.

In a statement released today, Fujitsu Air Conditioning UK said: “With the recent purchase of AMP by Panasonic eu we have decided to terminate AMP’s distribution agreement. Further details will be available soon but we will do all we can to ensure that disruption to our customers is kept to a minimum. We will work with our other distributors to ensure Fujitsu customers have an alternative supply channel available.”

Those alternative distributors include Cool Designs Ltd (CDL), Climate Center, FSW, Oceanair, TF Solutions and Ultimate Air. It is also represented by RSL in Ireland.

Fujitsu has been associated with AMP since 1992, originally through its sister company FM.

When contacted by the Cooling Post, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries said it was unable to comment on anything regarding AMP’s acquisition. However, it is less well-placed than Toshiba and Fujitsu with only HRP, now part of the Beijer Ref network, as its only other current distributor.
